It is sometimes the case that a piece of furniture needs a mechanism of some sort to fully achieve its desired functions. An engineering background enables Graham Ikin Furniture to design and make such mechanisms where suitable components are not available as standard parts. Here are some examples when that approach has been successfully undertaken.
Arisa Desk
The benefits of ‘standup’ working in terms of reduced fatigue and back pain are well established and I had received several enquiries for something which would fit in to a home office setting. After an exhaustive internet search I could find nothing suitable on the market so I developed the mechanism shown here. The simple gas-assisted mechanism of the Arisa allows it to be easily lifted even with the computer in place.
Having an engineering background it was no problem to then make the prototype which worked first time!
KEMBLE TV LIFT
The Kemble TV lift has a clever mechanism which slides the top forward before the TV rises. This means you can safely use the top surface as you would any other for ornaments, jewellery or, indeed, to stand your drink.
The unit shown has an extra-height lift but they can be made only 10cm higher than the size of the TV screen which makes them more compact than many cabinets. The cabinet can be designed to blend with your existing furniture.This mechanism was designed and made by Graham Ikin Furniture.

BOOSTER BENCH
Not furniture, but the workbench on which it is made. This sturdy bench can be raised or lowered hydraulically so that it is always at the right height.
Standard benches are at a fixed height which is always wrong and will guarantee a bad back! Some makers put blocks under the legs to raise the height but BoosterBench allows you to change the height while the bench is fully loaded (up to 100kg). Once you have used this you will not want to go back to an ordinary bench.
The heavy duty frame, hydraulics and electrics are all designed and made by Graham Ikin Furniture.
